NIS students win 2022 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) challenge

We are happy to announce that the “MAP SUPERSTARS” project done by some of our selected Grades 4 and 5 students has been recognized as one of the winners of the 2022 Global Citizens Innovative Solutions Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) challenge.

The Global Citizens Innovative Solutions SDG Challenge is an annual competition created by the Arab Youth Venture Foundation. It is a 100-day challenge where participants are asked to create innovative and imaginative solutions that will help address the issues related to one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals identified by the UN. The final submission is a video presentation where the participants have to explain their project’s planning and implementation stages.

The MAP SUPERSTARS project submitted by our students focused on SDG 4 (Quality Education for All) with the aim of promoting growth and innovative learning for Grades 3 to 5. The students identified issues relating to education and formulated solutions to address these problems. A solution they came up with was to hold Gifted and Talented (GAT) workshops to support learning. The workshops range from music to cubing, Minecraft, and arts and crafts.

Our students Mohammad, Lev, Sophia, Mera, Oak, Nicole, Ty, Timofey, Joud, and Hamzah are the youngest winners of this year’s SDG Challenge. The other winners of the competition are from various countries around the world, such as China, Uganda, Nigeria, and Ghana.

Ms. Maggie Benson, one of the group supervisors from our school, expressed how proud she is of the students.

“It was amazing to see the students come up with creative ideas for workshops they could demonstrate to other students. I know that both the student instructors and the students who got to participate in the workshops enjoyed it a lot,” she shared.

Dr. Jay Teston, our school principal, shared his thoughts on this amazing accomplishment. “Nibras students stand tall among other creative and innovative brightest people from around the world. Congratulations to all of you. We are so proud of you,” he said.
