At NIS International School, inclusion means every student has access to high-quality teaching and the right support at the right time. Our Inclusion Team works across Special Educational Needs (SEN), English as an Additional Language (EAL), and Gifted & Talented, using a graduated (RTI) model, which means all students receive universal classroom strategies, targeted small-group interventions when needed, and individualized educational plans for a few. We partner closely with families and teachers, and where appropriate, arrange accommodations, modifications, and language support in line with KHDA guidance.
Students thrive through a comprehensive English as an Additional Language program. Through tailored interventions they make steady progress in both academic and everyday language, mastering phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, language functions, and pragmatics.
Non-English speaking students receive dedicated support from day one, beginning with comprehensive assessments during enrollment that identify each learner’s strengths and areas for growth. As they progress, ongoing evaluations ensure their development is closely monitored.
As one of the best American schools in Dubai, students receive targeted support through pull-out and push-in instruction, with intensive, skills-based English learning for beginners. EAL teachers empower both learners and mainstream teachers, ensuring they thrive in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
Language support comes to life as learners collaborate with strong language role models, participate in engaging group activities, and benefit from thoughtful accommodations including extended time.
Upon enrolment, students complete initial IDEA Online English Language Proficiency Test and Home Language Survey, guided by our Head of Inclusion to identify strengths, language proficiency, and areas for support.
Ongoing assessments ensure every learner's growth is closely monitored, including:
IPT assessments, tracking reading and writing scores
Lexia Progress, weekly reflections on grammar and comprehension
EAL data tracking, formative assessments and MAP reports
Teacher feedback and observations on speaking and listening skills through class participation and presentations
Students benefit from a dynamic EAL program that combines pull-out and push-in instruction. Beginners receive intensive, skills-based English language support, focusing on reading, writing, listening, and speaking, all aligned with AERO Common Core standards.
EAL teachers collaborate closely with the other teachers, offering professional development, workshops, and personalized guidance. They assist with differentiation, provide glossaries, and share resources to ensure every learner can access new content and concepts.
At NIS School, learners are paired with strong language role models and engage in collaborative activities that foster communication and teamwork. Accommodations including extended time and separate seating are provided when needed.
Ongoing differentiation includes timed reading practice, 'talk for writing' activities, and purposeful communication through games and group work.
Graphic organizers support both speaking and writing, while learners explore complex texts that match their interests, ensuring exposure to a wide variety of text types and continuous language growth.
Students take an active role in their learning journey with the support of the Student Support Team (SST), which identifies academic challenges early and tailors interventions to each learner’s needs. By participating in this proactive, problem-solving process, students gain targeted strategies and resources that help them overcome obstacles and achieve greater success in the classroom.
At our American curriculum school in Dubai, students benefit from our Inclusion Department, which ensures their academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs are met. With Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), learners receive tailored goals and interventions that build on their strengths. Tiered support and specialized in-class modifications help students participate fully and make meaningful progress. Ongoing assessments and regular communication with families keep every learner on track, while trained Learning Support Assistants provide expert guidance.
Students who consistently outperform expectations are empowered to thrive through an enriched, personalized curriculum designed to meet their unique strengths and interests. Learners engage in innovative, cross-curricular experiences that challenge and inspire, ensuring their talents are fully realized. The program goes beyond academics, nurturing personal responsibility, self-discipline, and independent learning, while fostering respectful conduct and social-emotional balance. Through collaborative support from teachers, parents, and peers, students develop advanced critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and creativity.
At Nibras International School, inclusion means every student has access to high-quality teaching and the right support at the right time. We partner closely with families and teachers to ensure that this takes place."

Head of Inclusion
NIS is a truly inclusive school. We embrace the individuality of every child - welcoming students of all abilities and backgrounds. As one of the best American schools in Dubai, we aim to provide a supportive environment so each child can thrive academically, emotionally and socially.
At our private school in Dubai, students of determination (those with additional learning needs) receive support via the Inclusion Department. This includes in-class accommodations and modifications, specialist interventions, emotional/behavioral support, and an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) where appropriate.
The SST is a proactive problem-solving team that identifies students who are falling behind academically, determines what level of support they need, and designs tailored interventions to help them succeed in the curriculum and in class.
The IEP is a document for students with special educational needs that outlines their specific strengths, areas to improve, goals, and the support and interventions required. It’s regularly reviewed to track progress and make adjustments as needed.
EAL is for students whose first language is not English. NIS School in Dubai uses tests (specifically the IDEA Online iPT English Proficiency Test) to assess where a student’s English level is. Based on that, support is offered through pull-out or in-class (push-in) lessons. Beginners receive intensive skills-based instruction in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Teachers also collaborate to help mainstream teachers differentiate content.
Yes, sometimes they do. As per the Admissions Policy, additional learning support may involve extra costs. Parents are encouraged to inform our international school in Dubai at application if their child will need such support.
Parents are expected to provide relevant information, collaborate with the Inclusion / Learning Support team, and participate in developing the IEP or support plan. Communication is regular (between teachers, support staff, and parents) to monitor the child’s progress.
Wellbeing is central to NIS’s ethos. As a top American school in Dubai, we focuse on emotional health as well as academic growth, creating a community that supports happiness, respect, and cultural identity.
Our American curriculum school in Dubai asks parents to share information about any special needs during the application process. NIS then assesses whether it has the right support in place. They may request professional assessments or documents. Decisions on placement are made considering the child’s needs.
