Nibras Gives Back: High School Students Leading with Gratitude and Purpose

High School students at Nibras International School in Dubai launched Nibras Gives Back to support bus drivers and school staff, strengthening student leadership and community service in Dub

At Nibras International School Dubai, where students are empowered to Lead, Learn, and Influence, student leadership is about more than academic success. It is about character, compassion, and community. Through the inspiring Nibras Gives Back initiative, our High School students have demonstrated what it truly means to live the TORCH values and make a meaningful difference to those around them.

The Inspiration Behind Nibras Gives Back

The Nibras Gives Back project was founded by a group of High School students who recognized that community service deserved greater focus within the school. Motivated by a desire to support individuals who are often unseen yet essential to daily school life, they created a platform for students to contribute positively to their community. Their focus was clear from the beginning: to show appreciation to bus drivers, cleaners, and support staff whose dedication ensures the smooth running of every school day.

As bus students themselves, the founders reflected on the people who safely transport them to and from school each day. They realised that giving back could begin within their own community. After discussing their ideas with fellow club members, they agreed that expressing gratitude in a meaningful way would reflect the true spirit of Nibras and its TORCH values.

Student Voice: Leadership Rooted in Gratitude

“Through Nibras Gives Back, we realised that real leadership begins with gratitude. Taking the time to recognise the people who support us every day has changed the way we see our school community and our responsibility within it,” Yara M., a Grade 12 student, shared.

To create lasting impact, students collected non-perishable items such as rice, oil, tea bags and other essential goods. Donation points were organized across designated classrooms, and club members met daily to sort and prepare items for packaging. Their initial goal was to prepare 29 care boxes. However, thanks to the generosity of the wider Nibras community, they exceeded expectations and packaged almost 50 boxes. The additional donations allowed them to extend their appreciation to even more members of the school support team.

The students identified raising awareness as their greatest challenge. At first, they were unsure whether they would collect enough items to meet their goal. Through determination and collaboration, they worked with teachers and supervisors to spread the message, while also using their own platforms to encourage participation. The experience taught them the importance of perseverance, teamwork, and believing in the power of a shared purpose.

“At first, we were not sure if we would reach our goal, but we learned that when a community comes together with a shared purpose, anything is possible. This experience taught us to stay committed and never give up,” Lisa M., another Grade 12 student, shared.

Strengthening Community Through Service

For the students involved, the most rewarding moment came when they distributed the care boxes. Seeing the genuine gratitude and appreciation from bus drivers, cleaners, and support staff left a lasting impression. The initiative not only strengthened relationships within the school community, but also deepened students’ understanding of empathy and responsibility.

“Giving back now means being more aware of the people around us and recognizing that we all have a responsibility to support one another. It is about showing appreciation through action, not just words,” Yara said.

Building a Culture of Service and Responsibility

Through Nibras Gives Back, our High School students have demonstrated that leadership is rooted in service. By recognising the contributions of those who are often underappreciated, they have embodied the values of gratitude, respect, and community that define Nibras International School.

As the initiative continues to grow, students are already exploring new ways to expand their impact and further embed community service into school life. Nibras Gives Back is not just a project. It is the beginning of a culture where every student understands that even small acts of kindness can create lasting change.
