A family journey through nibras: Eighteen years of dedication, love, and legacy

Celebrate 20 years of Nibras International School with the inspiring story of our Registrar, who has been part of the community for 18 years and raised three Nibras graduates, with two more

As Nibras International School celebrates its 20th anniversary, few stories capture the heart of our community quite like that of Jahida Al Chater, our dedicated School Registrar. A proud mother of five daughters — three Nibras graduates and two current students — Jahida has spent 18 years growing with the school, both personally and professionally.

For nearly two decades, Jahida has been the welcoming face for countless families joining Nibras. Her warmth, patience, and professionalism have guided them through their first steps into the community, helping each family feel right at home. Her journey is deeply woven into the fabric of Nibras, as both a valued team member and a proud parent watching her children learn, thrive, and achieve their dreams.

Her three eldest daughters, Marah (Class of 2014), Ayah (Class of 2016), and Maya (Class of 2021), proudly graduated from Nibras. Today, Marah is a doctor, caring for others with compassion and purpose. Ayah is the CEO and Design Director of Maklad Design, the company that helped bring the interiors of Nibras’ Secondary expansion to life. It was a full-circle moment for the family.

Maya, the 2025 valedictorian of the American University in Dubai, was invited to return as a guest speaker at the NIS Legacy Dinner heldin June 2025, inspiring the next generation of Nibras students.

Jahida’s two younger daughters, Tala and Alma, are currently here at Nibras, proudly carrying forward the family’s legacy.

Reflecting on her journey, Jahida describes Nibras as her “second home,” a place that has shaped not only her career but also her children’s futures.
“Nibras has been my second home for nearly two decades. I’ve seen the school grow, families flourish, and students become confident young adults. To watch my own daughters learn, laugh, and graduate from here has been the greatest joy of all,” shared Jahida.

Her daughters, now proud Nibras alumni, continue to embody the school’s values of curiosity, resilience, and compassion.

“It means so much to celebrate this moment with the school that was my home for 14 years. Nibras has played such an important role in shaping who I am today, and I’m truly thankful for the lessons, opportunities, and values it has given me,” shared Maya, the 2025 valedictorian of the American University in Dubai and guest speaker at the NIS Legacy Dinner.

The Nibras community shares that pride.

“Jahida has been part of every chapter of Nibras’ growth. Her warmth, dedication, and positivity reflect exactly what makes our school special. Families trust Nibras because of people like her,” said Dr. Jay Teston, School Superintendent of Nibras International School.

As Nibras celebrates two decades of shaping young minds, stories like Jahida’s remind us that a school’s true legacy lies not just in its history, but in its people, especially the families who give it heart and meaning, every single day.

Looking ahead, Jahida is excited to continue being part of Nibras’ evolving story, supporting her two daughters still in school and the next generation of students who will carry the Nibras spirit into the future.
